Teaching has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I am still curious about how humans learn, and how to motivate and pass on the information I have acquired over these many years effectively. I treat each student as an individual and have enough strategies that I can guarantee if the student is disciplined they will make the progress they desire if they follow my advice.

I can summarise my teaching concept as guiding the student on how to experiment during practice, understanding their own body with the aim of creating your individual voice on your instrument.

I teach at all levels from beginners to graduate level and the professional development of other teachers and professional players. Ex-pupils have gained places at virtually every Music College in the UK on both Classical and Jazz courses. Many of my ex-students are now colleagues working in the music industry.

I have taught at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for 25 years and Wells Cathedral School for 16 years and also teach privately.

“I would like to say that throughout these past two years, my lessons with you have been amazing and have always had me leaving the room smiling. I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done…I would not have managed any of it without your teaching and guidance."

Private tuition

I do have a small number of private pupils of all standards who come to me at my home studio. Since lock-down these have all been run on-line via Zoom. Hopefully face to face lessons will resume during 2021.

On-line lessons have worked better than I expected and some students find they are less self-concious so play better. From my perspective the better the sound quality from the student's end the better the lesson so and if this is something you would like to experience I can help you set up the best possible sound.

If you want to enquire email or send a message via my home page.

European Youth Summer Music

I have been working on this residential summer music camp for many years and it is one of the most rewarding things I do. I am part of an amazingly talented teaching team and we work intensively for the week it lasts with the 100 or so young musicicans and create some astounding music performances.

There is no audition only a desire to take part.
