Carismático Tango

Carismático is a Tango ensemble with a difference. They take their inspiration from the Tango Nuevo compositions of Argentinian Tango Composer Saúl Cosentino (a protege of Astor Piazzolla) with a virtuoso ensemble of accordion, saxophone & clarinet, piano, drums and bass.

The ensemble's inspiring, beguiling and creative performances go beyond the simple reproduction of the classic tango sound with the addition of  beautiful and creative tango inspired compositions of renown composer and accordion virtuoso Karen Street, the evocative vocals of Guillermo Rosenthuler and the passionate dancing of Tango stars, Richard Manuel and Tamsyn Webb.

Karen Street's project "Unfurled" is performed by her drum-less quartet of accordion (played by Karen herself), saxophone by the honey-toned Andy Tweed, guitar by ever-creative Mike Outram and powerhouse bassist Will Harris.

Karen has that rare ability to create really memorable tunes. Couple this with her skill as an arranger and a group of players whose individual and collective sounds are truly beautiful and the results are performances and recordings that audiences really engage with, that are sometimes intimate and often witty. Her influences are wide-ranging; jazz, folk, the inevitable influence of Tango (so often associated with the accordion), with nods to Central Europe.

Pinewood Saxophone Quartet

The Pinewood Saxophone Quartet celebrate the golden era of Hollywood with a programme of music by composers including Burt Bacharach, Michel Legrand, Neal Hefti, Jack Marshall, Harold Arlen, and Claude Debussy. They take inspiration from the legendary Hollywood Saxophone Quartet of the 1950s, drawing upon the HSQ repertoire legacy. The Pinewood Quartet also creates their own arrangements and incorporates jazz improvisation into their performances.
